School uniforms have always been customary in private schools, but over the past few decades, more and more public schools have moved towards instituting uniforms as well. Today, nearly 20% of the public schools in the United States require students to wear a uniform. Several studies over the decades have shown that uniforms reduce bullying and other violent tendencies and improve academic performance, but the cons include lack in individuality and issues regarding gender identity.
